It is reported that Burnley FC will have to smash their transfer record if Hearts winger Andrew Driver is to become a Claret next season.

The Lancashire Telegraph claims the SPL club has turned down a £1.5 million bid from Burnley and are now demanding £3.5 million.

If boss Brian Laws is to win the battle to sign 22-year-old England Under-21 international, it will mean him beating the club’s previous transfer fee of £3 million paid for Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher last summer.

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies would rather not have to sell any of his prized assets but will do so if the price is right.

He said: “I think we have got a decent squad here, a few players have left since the end of the season, and I want to keep the one that we have got left.

“Obviously every player has their price and if a club comes in and the player says that he wants to move, there’s not much I can do about it.”
