Midfielder Graham Alexander made his comeback from injury for Burnley FC's reserves on Monday night.
The veteran Scot has missed Burnley's last five Premier League games due to a calf strain, which also ruled him out of Scotland's squad to face Czech Republic.
However, he played 64 minutes for the Clarets' second string in the 4-1 defeat by Manchester City to boost his prospects of a first-team return.
Alexander may now be in contention for a recall for Saturday's trip to Arsenal as Burnley seek to improve upon a record of just one point in 14 away matches.
Meanwhile, Cameroon international midfielder Olembe also played in the reserve game, but was replaced at half-time.
Olembe, who can count Leeds United and Wigan Athletic among his former clubs, was largely ineffective before being taken off.
