Brian Laws admitted that Clarke Carlisle had to take responsibility following Burnley FC's 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth FC.

Frederic Piquionne's opener for Pompey was cancelled out by an exquisite Martin Paterson lob to leave it 1-1 at half-time.

But Clarets skipper Carlisle gave away two penalties in the second half, the first of which was saved by Brian Jensen from Jamie O'Hara'seffort.

Laws felt he could not defend Carlisle's errors.

Laws told Sky Sports: "We gave Portsmouth the three points - they've not gained it by great excellence, it was more through our decision making. There's no hiding place out there.

"The captain has to take responsibility and hold his hand up and accept the blame for that."
