Burnley FC boss Brian Laws has confirmed the club is to cut short Fernando Guerrero's loan deal.

Guerrero joined Burnley last summer on a season-long loan from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle with a view to a possible permanent move.

"Fernando came here with high expectations," Laws told the Burnley website. "But we have come to the decision that he is not going to get into our side.

"We have got a big squad here and if we are going to make these decisions let's start making them and we have to move people around."

Guerrero was signed by former manager Owen Coyle and has not figured since the Scot left Turf Moor to be replaced by Laws in January.

"He's a player that needs to move on and see if there is anything out there that suits him better," Laws added. "He's probably a bit disappointed, as everybody is, that he has not made an impact within the football club.

"But we have to concentrate on those that will affect the team. We have got to give them every ounce of our coaching ability and mentality and those that are not getting in the team say it's time to move on.

"It's not a fall-out, it's a purely football decision.

"It won't be the first and it won't be the last. We have got a big squad and that's the nature of the beast.

"We have to make decisions for the right reasons for the football club."
