Former Burnley and Northern Ireland player Tommy Cassidy says the club will receive a boost now that Andre Bikey’s Cameroon have qualified for the World Cup finals.

Cassidy knows from experience how positive an affect this will have on his game and believes this will only be beneficial to the team over the coming months.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph he said: “From what I’ve seen of him he doesn’t look a bad player and it’s good to see another Burnley player at the World Cup again.

“He will know that he’s got to play well for the rest of the season now. He'll need to stay fit and he'll want to play well for Burnley to get into that Cameroon team.

“That is great motivation and that will benefit Burnley, and Owen Coyle will know that too.

“The only thing I suppose is that he won't want to get an injury as I did.

“Around Christmas in the season before the tournament I got a knee injury, but the club really supported me because it was a such prestige thing for them as well to have a player at the World Cup.”
