As Burnley boss Owen Coyle approaches his second anniversary at Turf Moor, captain Steven Caldwell has been paying tribute to the man who has took the club into the top flight for the first time since 1976.
Coyle turned a group of players languishing in the Championship into a side that achieved promotion to the top flight in the space of eighteen months.
Speaking on the club's website Caldwell explains: "A lot of the players who are still playing he inherited, and that shows the mark of a good manager and a man who's very confident in his own ability," said Caldwell.
There were players that were already here who were maybe not playing to their full potential or below what they were capable of and he managed to bring the best out of them.
"That's the mark of an unbelievable manager.
"He doesn't feel he has to change 80 per cent of the team. He strengthens the areas he feels need it but he uses the quality he has and brings the best out of people and I've been one of them.
"When he first came I was injured and it's fair to say I then had a pretty ropey start but the confidence he gave me, and being fit, meant I have gone from strength to strength and that's because of the relationship I have for him and the respect I have for him."
Caldwell added: "He came in and gave people a lot of confidence and brought a momentum to the club.
"Right away he was very positive and the lads responded to him almost immediately.
"In time, as we became more confident as a team, the momentum got better and we looked a much better side but I think the gaffer was like that from day one.
"He shaped the team to the style he wanted and once we bought into that and believed that 100 per cent we went from strength to strength and hopefully that will continue."
