Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle was livid with straight sending-off of Gary Cahill during his side's 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The defender was dismissed on the hour mark for a challenge on Maroune Chamakh when the score was 2-1 to the Gunners.

"My initial reaction was the foul was a free-kick or a yellow card but it didn't seem to me a red," said Coyle.

Even Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had some sympathy: "It was more a dark orange or a light red."

Coyle was also bemused that referee Stuart Attwell did not award a free kick for a foul on South Korea international Lee Chung-Yong.

Coyle added: "Lee was fouled right on the edge of the box, I don't think it was a penalty but it's certainly a free-kick and within two seconds they've played the ball on the counter-attack and we're down to 10 men.

"Anybody that knows anything about football knows that it was clearly a free-kick and then, all of a sudden from a dangerous position we're down to 10 men against Arsenal.

"It's difficult playing 11 v 11 against Arsenal, never mind being a man short. But we should have defended better."

having seen the full match highlights, Bolton were lucky not to concede 2 pens and 3 red cards

No comments about Stuart Attwell? 2..3..4..? very poor decisions from one of the EPL's best referees. Please send him back to school.

I have no argument over the red card - yellow would have been enough. But also no mention by Coyle of Robinson's dreadful assault on Diaby.

I wuld like to know if Coyle sent out half his team to cripple, or does it just come naturally? Cahill was never a red card..but Robinson??

This was never a red but Coyle should be thanking this ref for allwoing Davies, Robinson and the other thugs to stay after 45 minutes.

why lunge in two footed, from behind, at a player standing on tthe touchline, who hasn't even got the ball? i mean, just why do it?

And did not fume over the horriffic tackle by Robbinson that put Diaby out of the match, while Robinson shamelessly pretended he himself was

Did Coyle have any comments over Robinsons definite non red card?

I thought at the time it should have been a yellow and Arshavin should have been able to go on. Robinson's assault on Diaby was a red though
