Adam Bogdan has been given an unexpected chance to keep goal for Bolton Wanderers.
Current No 1 choice Jussi Jaaskelainen was sent off against Birmingham City last time out meaning he will miss the clash with Arsenal on 11 September.
Second-choice keeper Ali Al-Habsi has been sent on loan to Wigan Athletic so thrusting Bogdan into the Premier League limelight.
Before Wanderers’ Carling Cup game the Hungarian spoke of the importance of being ready for any eventuality.
He said: “I know I have to be prepared because everything and anything can happen in football.
“I might be on the bench all season and not get called upon. Or I might get the shout from the manager and I need to be ready."
Prophetic words, as 22-year-old now faces his sternest test so far against the Gunners.
However, he is looking forward to it: “It’s exciting. What I’ve realised is you don’t get anywhere without hard work.
“Some keepers get a chance at 18 or 19 and play for the first team because they’re so good or just get lucky with opportunities.
"But some have to do it step-by-step and that’s what I am doing.
“Hopefully, I’ll get where I really want to be sooner rather than later.”
