Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle was satisfied with his side’s 1-0 win away at League One side Southampton.

The Scot made a number of changes to the team that beat West Ham United 3-1 away in the Premier League at the weekend.

Wanderers sneaked through to the next round courtesy of an Ivan Klasnic strike, his first of the season, and Coyle with the way his team went about their job.

“We made nine changes from Saturday and that was for two reasons," said Coyle.

"One to get a bit of freshness and also to give these lads some game time under their belts because they will all be called upon in the Premier League.

"It was a hard-fought game and tremendous credit to Southampton. They were terrific on the night but we are delighted to get the victory."
