Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle has been frustrated in his efforts to land Barcelona midfield starlet Thiago Alcantara.

The future of Alcantara seemed to be in doubt prompting Coyle’s move to bring him to the Reebok.

It appears the Scot asked Barca for the 19-year-old on loan for the season and Wanderers were encouraged by club president Sandro Rosell.

But coach Pep Guardiola plans to use the teenager in his squad this season after his failure to sign Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas.
