Bolton Wanderers midfielder Sean Davis has revealed he is happy with his ongoing rehabilitation after undergoing knee surgery.
Davies had only played four games for Wanderers since joining from Portsmouth last summer before damaging his articular cartilage in the clash with Liverpool back in September.
The 30-year-old is back in light training and looking ahead to being fully fit for next season.
But he revealed the injury could have been more severe had he not been shown a red card by the referee on the day he suffered the injury.
"Maybe the sending-off against Liverpool was a blessing in disguise because if I had continued then I could have made the injury even worse," explained Davis.
"But that was a long time ago and it's good to be getting back on the road to recovery. I'm running outside, getting stronger although I'm still a fair few weeks away.
"The main thing when you are doing knee rehab is to try and get your quads, calves and hamstrings back to how they were before. The more work you do on those muscles then the easier the pressure becomes on your knee.
"You do put on a bit of weight because you aren't allowed to do exercise for a certain amount of time and obviously it feels different when you do start running again. It's all new to me, but I've been working hard in the gym to try and get myself back as quick as I possibly can.
"I don't think I will be able to play again this season although I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a few full training sessions in. The recovery process does take time, but time is on my hands because I have got to pre-season if needs be.
"I'll be in over the summer and I've got to say that the physios, doctors and medical staff at the club have been great because they have let me get away as much as I can and I have kind of had my break already."
