Gary Cahill has insisted he is not expecting an immediate return to the Bolton Wanderers starting eleven against Everton FC despite successfully coming through a reserve match this week.
The goal-scoring centre-back has returned earlier than expected after being diagnosed with a blood clot in January.
He told Sky Sports: "It's good to be back playing in games again - I'm absolutely delighted to be back.
"Fitness-wise, it went pretty well. Obviously I've come back a little bit rusty, but it was all about fitness and getting 90 minutes under my belt; knowing that I can get though 90 minutes fine.
"I've come through everything well and I feel good.
"I made a couple of blocks, I've tested my heading and my shoulder, and come through it, so I'm happy with that."
Cahill added on Bolton's official website: "Now I have to keep on working hard in training.
"The lads have done really well since I have been out, so there's a challenge for me as I look to get into the manager's thoughts regarding selection."
