The spectacular fall of Sunderland FC has come as a surprise to Bolton Wanderers defender Sam Ricketts.
After an explosive start to the season, the Black Cats now find themselves in the relegation mire, having not won a game in fourteen attempts.
Ricketts explained: "It has obviously shown how well they started the season because they have not won since November.
“At the start of the season they were being tipped to perhaps push into Europe.
"They have got good individual players and I'm not sure why it's not happening for them, and hopefully it won't again on Tuesday night."
