Campbell came on as a substitute as Sunderland won 1-0 at the Reebok Stadium at the start of the season but has won a more regular starting spot as the campaign progressed.

"I've been waiting for a first-team spot for a long time; hopefully I can play until the end of the season now and help the team get out of the run they're in," he told SAFC TV.

"Bolton have changed their style; they were more route one before but since Owen Coyle's come in they've been passing it more.

"Like I've said before, the Arsenal game was a good test against a footballing team - now hopefully we can take something from that, play some good stuff and come away with win."

He added: "Nights like this define seasons - we must make sure we define it in the right way."
