Wanderers boss Gary Megson has defended England hopeful Gary Cahill after his side was resoundingly beaten 5-1 away by Aston Villa.
Cahill and fellow centre-back Zat Knight were unable to cope with the physical presence of Villa striker John Carew who was instrumental in talking Bolton apart.
Megson said: "The lad is a good player. You don’t get to where he’s got to playing like that. That was not a good game for Gary but he’s in there with quite a few others.
"It’s gone now and we’ve got to cope with the next 48 hours and then we’ve got to prepare for the Blackburn game."
