Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden has returned to the club after his loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday.

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman rejected the Owls’s request to keep him until the end of the season as he seeks to bolster his squad ahead of their play-off push.

Wednesday boss Dave Jones confirmed the Scot’s decision, saying: “Bolton are in a play-off spot, they have one or two injuries, and they want him back.

“He’s got better and stronger as his loan has gone on and I would like to thank him for his services and wish him the very best for the future.”
