Blackpool have snapped up former Cheltenham Town youth team player Josh Egan on a professional deal following a successful trial period.

The Bristol-born winger was recently released by the Robins at the end of a two-year scholarship and joined Blue Square Bet Square club Bath City immediately after being told he did not have a future at the club.

Cheltenham’s head of youth John Brough said that the offer was a great achievement for Egan, who would only have been offered a contract by Robins boss Mark Yates if he was ready for first-team football next season.

“Mark didn’t see him in the first team immediately and he will be going to a club who can give him room for development,” Brough said.

“Blackpool can afford to give players time to develop and bridge the gap between youth and first-team football, but at Cheltenham that’s not possible now due to the financial constraints the club is under."

Goalkeeper Louie Barnfather, who was also recently released by Cheltenham at the end of a two-year scholarship, has been offered a one-week trial with Blackpool.
