First half goals from Luke Varney and Marlon Harewood helped Blackpool seal a vital 2-1 victory over struggling Wolves.

Kevin Doyle's late reply set up a nervy finale, but the Seasiders held on to claim their second home victory of the season and end a run of three games without a win.

The game was expectantly an end to end affair that provided over thirty goal attempts; leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Marlon Harewood made a return to the starting line-up in attack for the home side, with Matty Phillips also coming in to make his second Premier League start.

Charlie Adam passed a late fitness test to make Ian Holloway's XI after picking up an injury on international duty for Scotland in midweek.

With Prince William in attendance at Bloomfield Road before embarking on an 'apparent' stag weekend around the resort, Varney opened the scoring on three minutes with a goal that was fit for a future King.

Ian Evatt lofted the ball out of defence to the loan star, who steadied himself before hitting a superb 25-yard strike that looped over a helpless Marcus Hahnemann.

Wolves immediately hit back and put the Seasiders defence under pressure with a couple of dangerous corners.

Blackpool looked dangerous on the break though, particularly through Phillips who was proving to be a threatening outlet on the right wing.

Harewood seen a hopeful long range strike saved by Hahnemann after Charlie Adam laid him on with a deft back heel before Christophe Berra had a tame header plucked out of the air by Richard Kingson at the other end.

Harewood repaid his manager's faith in starting him when he doubled Blackpool's lead on the stroke of half time.

Hahnemann flapped at Neal Eardley's in-swinging corner, and Harewood was on hand to prod the ball over the line from Varney's knock-down.

The second half provided even more entertainment, with a host of opportunities at both ends.

Wolves introduced Sylvan Ebanks Blake into the fold as they sought to add a cutting edge in attack.

The former Manchester United man saw a curling effort gathered by Kingson, before Doyle fired a dangerous cross that he was inches away from connecting with.

Doyle then glanced a header wide before Milijas rattled the post from distance with a blistering effort.

Varney had the chance to put the game beyond doubt for the home side, but sliced wide from outside the box after Adam played him through with a clever throughball.

Eardley then curled over a free kick from a glorious position after Adam was brought down.

Ian Evatt heroically slid in to prevent Ebanks Blake from tapping in Matt Jarvis' cross as Wolves were left frustrated in their attempts to pull a goal back.

Just as it looked like Blackpool would claim a clean sheet, Doyle headed home George Elokobi's cross to set up a grand stand finish.

But Ian Holloway's men held on to claim victory as Kingson tipped over Steven Fletcher's latch ditch attempt.

It's a crucial three points for the Seasiders as they face a tricky run of fixtures against the likes of Bolton, Manchester United and Tottenham.

The result lifts Blackpool back into the top half of the table in ninth position.
