Blackpool had to settle for a point after playing out a pulsating goalless draw at Upton Park.
In a match that featured plenty of chances at both ends, the two teams were left frustrated by their failure to make a breakthrough.
West Ham had two contentious penalty appeals waved away in the first half, whilst former Hammer Marlon Harewood had a perfectly valid goal controversially ruled out for the Seasiders in the second.
With Blackpool under a Premier League investigation following Ian Holloway's decision to make ten changes for the midweek trip to Aston Villa, he remarkably changed his entire starting line-up for this fixture.
The Seasiders were restricted to very few opportunities in the opening period, with Elliott Grandin firing their best chance straight at Robert Green from the edge of the box.
The hosts looked dangerous on the break, and had two penalty claims denied by referee Kevin Friend.
Pablo Barrera was firstly brought down in the box by Stephen Crainey, then Craig Cathcart used his arm to block Victor Obinna's vicious goal-bound effort with the referee well placed to award a spot kick.
Luke Varney dragged an effort wide from close range moments before the interval.
Richard Kingson replaced Matt Gilks in goal at the beginning of an action packed second half.
Luis Boa Morte should have given the Hammers the lead when he latched on to Scott Parker's through ball, but he struck his effort narrowly wide.
Charlie Adam then nearly caught out Green with an audacious 50-yard lob from that dropped only inches above the bar.
In a frantic 60-second spell, Harewood had a valid goal ruled out for offside when he diverted home from close range.
The hosts then went straight up the other end and nearly took the lead themselves when Barrera's close range effort was cleared off the line by Ian Evatt.
Carlton Cole nearly made the breakthrough when he poked Parker's pull against the post with Kingson well beaten.
Gary Taylor Fletcher blazed a golden chance over as the Seasiders rallied towards the end.
Harewood missed a gilt edged chance when he fired wide with the goal at his mercy.
Craig Cathcart was then denied a last gasp winner when Green quickly reacted to save his smashed effort from a corner.
The result leaves the Seasiders fourteenth in the league, in their first game of the season that has seen no goals.
