Blackpool were pegged back twice at Bloomfield Road as they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with in-form Everton.
Neal Eardley’s long range free kick fired Blackpool into an early lead, but Everton immediately responded through a trademark Tim Cahill header.
David Vaughan tapped in at the beginning of the second half as the Seasiders regained the lead, but the Toffees instantly replied once again through Seamus Coleman’s strike.
Marlon Harewood also had an effort controversially ruled out for the home side before the final whistle.
Ian Holloway's men made a bright start to the game, and took the lead through an unlikely source.
Charlie Adam won a free kick 25 yards out of goal after being brought down by Mikel Arteta.
Just as you expected the Scotsman to put his name on it, Eardley stepped up to magestically curl the ball past a despairing Tim Howard. The American could have arguably done better to get a hand to it.
The Seasiders’ lead lasted all of three minutes though.
Everton broke down the other end, and Cahill rose to powerfully head home Yakubu’s cross.
The Toffees continued to press forward and looked dangerous on the flanks, particularly through Coleman who troubled Stephen Crainey all game.
Cahill stabbed the ball straight at Matt Gilks after great interplay with Yakubu, before Sylvain Distin flashed a header wide of goal from Arteta’s corner.
Coleman had two great chances in succession to give Everton the lead. He firstly struck a volley straight at Gilks, and then was a whisker away from curling the ball home after cutting inside from the right wing.
Cathcart and Evatt were both defensive rocks, blocking shots from Cahill and Yakubu as both teams went in all square at the break.
Blackpool started the second half in the same vain as the first, and regained the lead.
In the midst of a goal mouth scramble, the ball broke to David Vaughan and the Welshman made no mistake in slotting home.
Everton immediately equalised once again when Seamus Coleman smashed a half volley under the diving Gilks.
The former Blackpool loan star chose not to celebrate his first Premier League goal in front of the Bloomfield Road faithful.
As the rain started to lash down, both teams made a series of attacking substitutions as they went in search of the winner.
Charlie Adam fired wide from outside the box before Everton started mounting pressure on the Blackpool defence.
Coleman fired a shot straight at Gilks, then Pienaar saw a weak effort saved from point blank range after playing a clever one-two with Cahill.
Substitute Louis Saha missed a glorious chance when Pienaar fed him through on goal with a delightful throughball, but Gilks spread himself and the Frenchman fired wide.
In an end to end finale, Charlie Adam burst forward and saw his pile driver tipped over by Howard.
Marlon Harewood then had an effort controversially ruled out for a contentious foul moments before the final whistle.
DJ Campbell played the ball over the top, and Harewood finished with aplomb only for ref Andre Marriner to bring an abrupt end to any celebration.
It was a creditable result for the Seasiders, who remain in the top half of the table after picking up their fourth point of the week.
