Blackpool FC defender Alex Baptiste is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury which flared up following Sunday's 4-0 loss at Chelsea.
Manager Ian Holloway said the 24-year-old could be ruled out for up to six weeks after a scan on the injury proved inconclusive.
"Hopefully the worst it'll be is four to six weeks, but it could be something else," he said.
"They won't tell completely until they've been in there."
The injury, which first occurred when Baptiste was 16, is likely to keep the former Mansfield player out of the upcoming fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester City.
It compiles a miserable month for the defender, who also injured his hand in the club's recent trip to Latvia during the international break.
"He is a lucky young man, there are a lot of things a lot worse than that," said Holloway.
"I can assure you a knee injury will be fixed. It might take a few weeks, or four to six weeks, but keep your chin up, you lucky individual."
Baptiste is set to undergo exploratory surgery on the injury later this week.
