Barry Ferguson is expected to be appointed Blackpool's new captain for the forthcoming season.
The 33-year-old former Scotland and Rangers skipper will take over duties from fellow countryman Charlie Adam following his £7m move to Liverpool.
Defenders Ian Evatt and Stephen Crainey were initially favourites to land the role prior to Ferguson's £750,000 move from Birmingham City - whose vast experience is set to be a major factor in the decision.
Speaking to the Scotsman, Seasiders assistant manager Steve Thompson said: "Barry's career stands up with anything we've got at Blackpool at the moment.
"He commands respect because of what he has done in his career and he has very high standards. Hopefully everyone here can live up to those standards.
"He is a good leader on and off the pitch and that will be important to us."
