Blackburn Rovers have moved to dismiss reports that Bulgarian Ivelin Popov could not move to Ewood Park because of a work permit problem.
Reports earlier in the day had suggested that the Popov move fell because the Home Office had refused his request for a work permit.
The grounds were believed to be that he had not made the requisite number of appearance for his country.
However, Blackburn Rovers claim this is not the reason why Popov did not join the club, claiming instead that because no club took Jason Roberts off their hands they could not sanction the arrival of another striker.
On the work permit stories Rovers chairman John Williams, said: "The reports are not true."
