Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has taken off the gloves in his war of words with Arsenal FC boss Arsene Wenger.

Wenger commented about Rovers’ direct approach but Allardyce has responded claiming the Frenchman’s Premier League winners of the past as being ‘the dirtiest team in the league’.

Allardyce said: “I have to remind Arsene about his own team that used to win the league that used to be the dirtiest team in the league.

“If you cast your mind back to when they used to win the league they had more sending offs and bookings than anyone else ever before, I think.

"When the players like Vieira, Petit, Campbell and Keown would mix it anyway you wanted to mix it.

“His change of tactics from that day to this are quite remarkable., he has gone from that team and changed it into a team bred on getting the ball down and passing and moving and we all agree it is the most pleasing football anyone can watch.

“But it is still not as good as that team he used to have could do it anyway you wanted to win the league and the cup.

"It caused anyone huge fear whenever you faced them because you wondered what way can we play to beat them.

“Now there is a way to beat them because I have done that over many matches. But in those days there wasn’t a way you could see to get your result. Ultimately you got beat which way you tried.”
