Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allarydyce has confirmed the club are close to finalising a deal with hitman Benjani.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after being released by Manchester City at the end of last season.

Benjani has impressed Allardyce whilst training with the Rovers squad.

Allardyce said: "We are trying to sign him on a contract because of his wealth of experience.

"He has trained with us a few days. He has shown us that we think he will be OK to play for us in the Premier League. So we are trying to sort something out."

Sell him because Roberts is a big lad who is easily bullied and is Rovers answer to horizontal Heskey. Benjani is a much stronger player.
