Striker Maceo Rigters believes he is the man to score the goals for Blackburn Rovers this coming season.

The 26-year-old arrived at Ewood Park on a four-year deal in 2007 but has so far struggled in the Premier League despite having won the golden boot in The Netherlands’ Under 21’s European Championship success.

The Dutch striker scored his first goal of pre-season in the 3-0 win at Southport on Saturday and he is hoping it will be the launch pad for a successful season as he seeks an extended pre-season run.

He has only made two Premier League appearances to date – the last in February 2008 – and it seemed his future lay elsewhere.

But he now has been handed a final chance to impress.

He said: “Last year I didn’t play in the games before the season, now I am there and I scored a goal.

"I hope my chances are bigger but we’ll see what happens. I’ll just do my best in pre-season, get fit and see what happens.

"But I know I can play football and I know I can score goals here. I’m just going to keep on working.

“I’ve scored a lot of goals in the reserves but I have to see where I’m going to start playing football.

"I hope it’s at Blackburn because I like the club and I really want to play in the Premier League.”
