Blackburn Rovers striker El Hadji Diouf is reportedly facing up to two years in prison.
The Lancashire Telegraph claims Diouf has been charged with assaulting a woman in a Senegalese casino which carries a maximum two-year custodial sentence.
29-year-old Diouf appeared in court while on a trip to his home country to attend a benefit concert for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
His bosses at Rovers said Diouf had been given time off to return to Senegal after the personal request from the country’s president.
Diouf’s agent Aleksandar Krstic said: “He was attending a charity event and did not expect to be arrested.
“At this stage I cannot say much more but I will be coming to the UK this week to speak to him about the matter.”
If found guilty Diouf could be locked up for between one month and two years and/or fined.
