Blackburn’s Allardyce in Reid plea to Ireland boss Trapattoni

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has urged Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni to give midfielder Steven Reid another chance.

The 29-year-old has only just returned to the Rovers squad after having undergone knee surgery in October last year.

He last played for his country in September 2008 against Montenegro.

Rovers boss Allardyce has been looking to ease Reid back into action and believes he will get back to his best.

He therefore took issue with Trapattoni when he questioned whether the Irishman could play at the highest level ever again, calling the Italian’s comments as 'drivel' and 'nonsense'.

Speaking to the Daily Star he said: "I was 100 per cent right in what I said.

"He should not hold what I said against Steven Reid. It's me that said it, not Steven Reid.

"He needs to come and watch the player because he could be a major asset for him and the country.

"He's a fantastic player and guy. But his main concern now has to be playing for Blackburn rather than Ireland, as quickly as he can."

If you were'nt such a mouth Aldo, we'd have had Reid for the two games. Maybe you got what you wanted then, eh?
