Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean has been banned from driving for 18 months after failing a breathalyser test.

Kean was also fined £1,800 after being convicted of drink-driving.

Kean, who was pulled over by police for speeding on 14 May, pleaded guilty but claimed his drink had been spiked. However, the court found he was unable to prove his case.

A judge at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court in Cheshire rejected the application for "special reasons" to be applied, saying Kean had failed to prove his drink had indeed been laced.

Kean was given a breathalyser test after his Mercedes was pulled over by police on the southbound carriageway of the M6 near Knutsford, Cheshire, following Rovers' 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Ewood Park earlier that day.

The prosecution contended he sped past a marked patrol car at 90mph.

The officers, who were driving at 50mph, pulled him over and gave him a breath test which recorded 65 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres.
