This is the icing on the cake for Wills and Kate with the Royal Wedding less than two weeks away.

A Lancashire baker has immortalised Prince William and his bride-to-be Kate Middleton as three ft figurines made out of sugar-paste.

Shoppers at Greenhalgh's Ormskirk store were stunned on Tuesday when they were greeted with the cake icing figures.

Bolton based baker David Smart, who fashioned the sugar characters, said: "The royal wedding is an exciting time for everyone and our expert team of cake decorators couldn’t resist making models of the happy couple.

"We then had to decide on what to do with the figures and it seemed only fair that like their real life counterparts they make an official visit around the North West.

"We have also created a selection of fun products for families to enjoy on 29th April ranging from gingerbread crowns to special Royal Wedding cakes for street parties."

The tour is set to start at the Greenhalgh’s store in Ormskirk before moving to Bootle on 21st April, Didsbury on 25th April and finishing in the Deansgate bakery in Bolton on 28th April.

At each location visitors will be invited to pose for a picture with the figures and post it to the Greenhalgh’s Facebook page.

From there they will be entered into a prize draw for a Royal Wedding Party Pack plus a six inch round Royal Wedding Cake.
