A Lancashire parish council mayor has confessed to being a "panties prowler" who broke into homes to steal women's underwear.

Shamed councillor Ian Stafford, 59, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary when he appeared at Preston Crown Court.

Handyman and gardener Mr Stafford resigned as a member of Preesall and Knott End Town Council after his arrest in July 2009.

Stafford of Sandicroft Place, Preesall, admitted to breaking into residents' homes in Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde and Stalmine between 1st January and 26th June 2009.

Female residents from the towns, near Blackpool, called-in Lancashire police after underwear disappeared from their homes.

One victim installed a hidden camera in her bedroom in order to catch him red-handed.

Defence counsel Mr Richard Haworth, told the court that Stafford had no previous convictions.

Judge Philip Sycamore renewed Stafford's bail but told him not to "draw any conclusions" from that over the likely sentence.

The case was adjourned until 5 February for pre-sentencing reports.

A spokesperson from Preesall and Knott End Parish Council said: "Mr Stafford resigned his seat on the council following his arrest.

"Cllr Rosina Lawson has taken over the role of mayor."

Is that a picture of any of the actual panties? Thugs and yobs dont get 2 years. What harm is there in a bit of innocent 'gusset fondling'?
