Liverpool's faltering season has taken a dramatic turn for the worse tonight as they fail to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool secured the win they needed against Debrecen to keep their hopes alive, running out 1-0 winners.
But they still needed Lyon to get some kind of result at home to Fiorentina if they were to take the qualification issue to the final round of matches.
As it transpired, Fiorentina joined Lyon in the knockout stages after beating the French champions at home by the same scoreline.
