A 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted as she made her way home after a night out with friends.
It happened in an alleyway behind a nightclub on Moor Street, Ormskirk sometime between 2:15am and 3am on Saturday 18 June.
A 22-year-old man from Merseyside has been arrested in connection with the assault and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Detectives are investigating and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and contact police.
DS John Entwisle said, "We are still trying to establish the circumstances around exactly what has happened and I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to think back to see if they saw anything that could help us with our enquiries.”
