Teen-drinking patrols set to be enforced in Lancashire

Patrols are to be carried out in woodland areas after concerns were raised that parents are dropping their children off at all night drinking sessions.

Officers discovered that large groups of teenagers have been meeting at rural areas in Silverdale, Bolton le Sands and Warton to camp out and drink alcohol.

They were following up complaints of criminal damage, theft and abandoned rubbish.

Residents have told members of the local neighbourhood policing team that parents have been seen dropping children off at the site during the evening.

PC Linda Head, community beat manager for Bolton-le-Sands, said: "The teens who are taking part in these gatherings, which we think are being organised on social network sites, are showing little respect for their surroundings or those living nearby.

"Broken bottles and cans have been left in the woods and residents recently collected four bags of rubbish following one party. Not only does this have an impact on the local community but it can also pose a danger to wildlife."

Officers will now be patrolling the area during evenings and weekends in a bid to crackdown on the problems.

PC Head added: "One of the most troubling things is that parents have been seen dropping off their children with camping equipment, leaving them for the evening without any adult supervision. Parents need to be aware of their responsibilities - they should know where their children are and what they are doing.

"Clearly, drinking alcohol is putting these youngsters at risk of harm in a dark wooded area with steep inclines and it is also contributing to anti-social behaviour in the local community."
