Police officers and staff in Preston were honoured for their achievements, bravery and good work at a special ceremony.

Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent James Lee hosted the awards evening to recognise those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Chief Supt Lee said: "It was an honour to be able to recognise the fantastic work and the admirable acts of bravery of officers in Preston.

"All of those who have received commendations have gone beyond the call of duty when faced with situations that were often dangerous and in some cases life threatening.

"Crime is low in Preston and that has not happened by accident - it is down to the hard work and determination of our officers and it is right that their actions are recognised."

Two officers, PC Daniel Finch and PC Adam Monaghan, were rewarded for their bravery after they helped to restrain a violent man in the city centre and bring him under control.

Peter Aitchison and Suzanne Coop helped to locate and potentially save the lives of two men when they were missing in Switzerland last year, and received recognition for their actions.

PC Justine Jackson was recognised for her dedication to her role as a coroner's officer, PC Paul Elliott was rewarded for his role in planning the police response to the English Defence League march in the city last year and PC Simon Sweeney's commitment and performance in reducing crime was acknowledged.

Andrew Wright's contribution to an investigation for a cash-in-transit robbery was recognised as was PCSO Andrew Nisbet's commitment to neighbourhood policing in the Deepdale area and Laura Hesketh's commitment to her role as an evidence related property officer.

Janette Parker was recognised for her actions in managing a violent person in the custody office and PCSO Neil Kane's commitment to policing in St Matthew's ward and PC David Dowling's performance in reducing crime was also rewarded.
