A man and his dog have been killed after being hit by two cars while crossing the road.

Stuart Mather, 60, from Barrowford, and his Scottish terrier dog, Hamish, were run over on Barrowford Road in Higham at around 5:15pm on Monday (6 June).

They were struck by a Honda Jazz, and then by a Vauxhall Astra travelling a few yards behind.

The victim was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital by Air Ambulance, but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival

The female drivers of the two cars involved were both uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions for three hours to allow accident investigators to examine the scene.

Sergeant Gareth Hill, senior investigating officer from the road policing unit, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to come forward and contact police."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Burnley police on 01282 425001 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
