Drunk driver crashes car killing 21-year-old Lancashire woman

A young woman has died after the car she was travelling in collided with a lamppost.

The incident happened at 5:45am this morning (Tue 7 June) as the yellow MG ZR travelled along Fleetwood Road, Anchorsholme.

Seven people, all in their late teens and early twenties, were in the car when it smashed into a lamppost and garden wall.

Tragically, a 21 year old passenger from Blackpool died at the scene.

The other five passengers, all from the Fylde, were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

One male has a punched lung and the other passengers are all being treated for minor injuries.

Sergeant Steve Wignall from Blackpool Road Policing said: “I would appeal to anybody that witnessed the collision or with any information that could assist with our investigation to contact us on 01253 293933.”

The 20 year old driver, from Pilling, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Fleetwood Road is currently closed northbound to allow for accident investigation.
