A fat shoplifter who grabbed TWO legs of lamb from a Lancashire supermarket chiller thought he had got away with it.... but police say he was caught on camera.
The chubby alleged criminal is accused of leaving a Co-operative store without paying for £40-worth of spring lamb joints that he had stuffed into green carrier bag.
A manager of the Co-op store in Lancaster spotted the crime and called police who made a search of the area, but found no trace of the suspect.
Now police have identified, on CCTV recordings, a man they want to question over the theft at the Co-op, in Chapel Street, Lancaster, on 15th April.
A Lancashire Constabulary spokesman said: "A man was seen to enter the store and go to a chiller cabinet where he placed two legs of lamb, worth approximately forty pounds, into a green carrier bag.
"He then slipped the bag under his coat and walked-out of the store without paying for the goods.
"This appears to be a deliberate and pre-meditated case of shoplifting.
"CCTV images have been viewed and we are satisfied from the time of the offence and the description of the man that the images that we have released are of the suspected offender.
"He is described as a white male with a heavy build and untidy short brown hair.
"He was wearing a white short-sleeved polo shirt, blue jeans and dark-coloured shoes and was carrying a dark brown jacket and dark green carrier bag.
"The CCTV images of this suspect are clear and we would urge this man to come forward and hand himself in.
"Otherwise we are confident that people will be able to positively identify him since his features and build are quite distinctive.
"Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. It does a great deal of harm to retailers and indirectly affects customers."
