Labour MP Rosie Cooper has expressed concern that the future of the Dial-A-Ride service in West Lancashire remains under threat despite a stay of execution.

The West Lancashire MP held a meeting with the County Council Chief Executive to express her fear that hundreds of her constituents could be left isolated if Dial-A-Ride services are lost.

This situation came about following the transfer of responsibility for concessionary travel from Borough Councils to Lancashire County Council. The County Council took the decision to remove Dial-A-Ride services from the NoWCard scheme.

Miss Cooper said: “When the original decision was taken to stop people from using their NoWCards on Dial-A-Ride services it was like signing the death warrant of these organisations.

"They have a three month stay of execution yet their future still remains uncertain and under threat.

“I believe that the Conservative-run Councils have felt the full force of the backlash from people across Lancashire for whom Dial-A-Ride services are a lifeline.

"Some constituents have said to me that they doubt this three-month concession would have been offered without the local elections being so close.

“Others have said this is typical Conservative’s they know the cost of everything but the value of nothing.

“If this is the case, then I am sure that people will not be fooled by this rather transparent tactic. However, the question still remains what happens when the three months is up.

"I am calling on Lancashire County Council and West Lancashire Borough Council to ensure that the people of this area are not left high and dry without access to essential transport services.”
