Police are appealing for witnesses after a 62 year old woman died following a road traffic collision.

Irene Salmon was struck by a Peugeot 106 travelling along Bengal Street, Chorley, at around 5pm last Wednesday.

Salmon, who lives in the town, was taken to Chorley Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The male driver of the car was also taken to hospital suffering from shock, while the female passenger was treated for head and facial injuries, including a broken nose.

The road was closed for around four hours to allow investigations to take place.

A 20 year old man from Chorley has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Sergeant Dave Hogarth said: "A full investigation into the cause of the collision is now underway, and I would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed it to contact police."

The family of Irene Salmon added: “Irene was young at heart. She lived life to the full, was caring and was always the life and soul of any party.

“She loved her family and friends, and loved jetting off abroad.”

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 08451 25 35 45, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Obviously another young lad driving too fast you can see that from the tyre marks on the road he must have been going well over 30mph. RIP
