Forensic evidence saw a prolific burglar, who raided homes as their owners slept, jailed for five years.

Daniel Devlin, of Harling Street, Burnley appeared before Burnley Crown Court on Friday March 4th after pleading guilty to six burglaries.

He targeted homes on Rossendale Road, Rosemount Avenue, Simpson Street, Oslo Road and Castlerigg Drive overnight in a two week spree between January 13th and 26th.

Devlin made off with items including laptops, a digital camera, a games console, flat screen TVs, jewellery and cars, with values totalling thousands of pounds.

He was arrested after hi-tech techniques linked the 37-year-old to the scene at Castlerigg Drive.

DI Martin Melvin said: "Devlin is a cowardly individual who targeted people's homes as they slept. He is a prolific burglar and I am pleased that we have managed to bring his crime wave to an end.

"We understand the devastating impact that this intrusive crime can have on victims and although burglary is at its lowest in years, we will never lose focus. We are determined to take action to continue to target those people who invade your homes."
