A man has been sentenced five years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence in Lancashire.
Uwais Ilyas, 22, of Colombo Road, Ilford in Essex, was sentenced on Friday 21st January after admitting the charge in October last year.
He has already served 307 days on remand which will be deducted from his sentence.
It followed an incident in the Fulwood area of Preston on 12th February 2010 when shots were fired at a house on Ferndale. The bullet went through the front window of a house but nobody was injured.
Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen, from the Lancashire Constabulary Major Investigation Team, said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed down by the judge today which reflects the very serious nature of this offence.
"Thankfully nobody was injured during the incident on Ferndale, but that is down to sheer good luck, it could quite easily have had far more serious consequences.
“Lancashire Constabulary is committed to investigating these offences thoroughly and once again we would like to thank all those involved in the enquiry. In particular, I would like to show my appreciation to the Metropolitan Police for their generous assistance throughout this investigation.
“Lancashire Constabulary will not tolerate any form of gun crime and will be relentless in bringing those who commit this type of crime to justice.”
