Police in Lancashire are hunting a convicted burglar who is on the run from four different police forces after a committing a crime spree across the UK.

Nicholas McCarthy, 27, is wanted in relation to a burglary which took place in Aughton in November last year.

Liverpool-born McCarthy is also wanted on prison recall after being released from jail on licence in December 2009 following a previous conviction of burglary and driving offences in North Wales.

Merseyside and Cheshire police also wish to question him in relation to a number of burglary offences in the North West and he is wanted by Northamptonshire police for an armed robbery.

McCarthy is originally from the Kirby area of Merseyside and it is thought he could be living in the region. He is described as white, of medium to stocky build and speaks in a Liverpool accent.

Lancashire Constabulary's DS Phil Bowerbank, from Skelmersdale CID, said “I would ask the public to be vigilant and report any sightings to the police - any details the public may have could be crucial. It is important that we locate McCarthy as soon as possible.

"As a force we have a high success rate of returning people to prison and use all methods to catch these people and to return them to serve the remainder of their sentence.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
