Two Lancashire men who robbed a customer at a restaurant in Barrow were jailed for a total of two years and four months.

Steven Bell, 31, was banged up for 16 months, while Jason Riding, 38, of Chatburn Road, Longridge was jailed for 12 months.

Both men appeared at Preston Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to robbery.

Around 10pm on 4 June, both Bell and Riding went into the Eagle at Barrow restaurant where a 32-year-old man was having a meal with his wife.

They followed the man into the men’s toilets where they grabbed him from behind and stole his wedding ring and car keys.

They then made off in the car – a black Toyota Aygo, before abandoning it in Ribchester.

The two men were arrested at their homes later that night.

Speaking after sentencing, DC Elaine Smalley said: “Fortunately the man only suffered minor injuries although clearly this was a frightening ordeal for him as he was simply having a meal with his wife.

“Offences such as this will not be tolerated in the Ribble Valley and we will do anything within our power to bring offenders to justice.”
