A passer-by who helped jail a robber after he attacked an elderly woman in Burnley, has been praised by police.
Around 10.30am on Friday 20th August, the man spotted a 66-year-old woman being robbed on Temple Street, Burnley.
He helped the woman to her feet after she had been pushed to the floor by a man who ran off with her handbag. He immediately contacted the police with a description of the suspect.
A man, matching the description, was quickly identified and arrested nearby and was subsequently charged with robbery.
Daniel Stafford, 20, of Springfield Road, Burnley, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday 12 October when he was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to robbery.
DC Karen Edwards from Burnley CID said: "This was a pre planned attack on a lone and vulnerable member of the public who was left traumatised by what happened.
"I would like to thank the passer by who helped the woman and contacted the police. His vigilance and fast actions greatly assisted in Stafford’s early arrest."
