Two men have been found guilty of a £250k robbery at a jewellery shop in Blackburn following a trial at Preston Crown Court.
Wayne Williams, 36, of Fairlawn Park, South London and Tarique Jules, 31, from Blackwater Street, Southwark were both convicted of robbery and conspiring to commit robbery.
Both denied the offences and stood trial but it took the jury less than two days to convict the pair and both will be sentenced on 5 November.
Cleon Perry, 33, of Tulse Hill, South London; Shaun Springer, 30, from Croyden and Scott Raphael of Southwark are also awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to robbery earlier this year.
The robbery took place at the Ancient and Modern Jewellers on New Market Street in the town on 8 July 2009.
During the attack three men went into the shop and threatened the staff with a crow bar and a hammer before making off with watches and other jewellery from the displays.
Detective Inspector Neil Ashton who is led the investigation said: “This has been a long and complicated enquiry. We have worked very closely with a number of other forces, in particular the Metropolitan Police, in identifying and prosecuting these offenders. The positive impact of these convictions will be felt nationally not just here in Lancashire.
“I would also like to thank a number of people from Blackburn who had confidence in the police to come forward and assist the investigation. Their role in providing vital information and evidence throughout the case was crucial in securing these convictions.
“This case demonstrates our commitment to tackling organised crime in East Lancashire and shows that if you come into Lancashire to commit crime you will be subject to a thorough investigation and may face a lengthy prison sentence.”
