A paedophile who subejcted two teenage boys to a terror ordeal and then went on the run in an attempt to escape justice, has been jailed for three years and four months.
John Humphries, 39, befriended the two youngsters - then aged 13 – in May 2009.
He plied them with booze at an address in central Blackpool, before taking them to South Shore where the attack then took place.
The youngsters were able to make their escape with the help of a local taxi driver, after Humphries tried to take them to another address.
The driver, realising something was wrong, dropped them near their home address instead. The boys’ parents then contacted police and the dedicated child sex abuse "Awaken Team" became involved.
Humphries was arrested and remanded in custody, but was bailed to attend Preston Crown Court for trial in November 2009.
But he skipped bail and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Humphries, formerly of Central Drive, Blackpool, was arrested in Leeds in April 2010.
He appeared at Preston Crown Court earlier this year, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of child abductions; two counts of sexual touching; drink driving and failing to appear at court.
After reports were compiled on Humphries he has been sentenced to three years and four months; given a lifetime sexual offences prevention order, limiting his contact with children; and has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
DC Andy Rigby, from the Awaken Team, said: “Humphries gave his victims alcohol, making them even more vulnerable in his company – fortunately they were able to escape from him before he could cause them even more harm.
“Today’s sentencing means that he will be off our streets for some time to come and shows that the Awaken team are working together to prevent the sexual exploitation of our children.
“It was a difficult investigation not only for the police but for the boys. Hopefully this sentence can bring them some form of closure and they can move on after a very traumatic 17 months.”
