A CONVICTED sex offender who breached the conditions of his registration requirements was jailed for 14 weeks at Blackpool Magistrates court this morning.

John Sharman, 40, formerly of Marlborough Avenue, Morecambe, was arrested by officers in Blackpool on Monday after changing adresses without informing police.

Officers had started a hunt for Sharman after a woman and her four-year-old daughter were reported missing from their Morecambe home on Sunday September 12.

Both the woman and her daughter were found safe and well at Sharman's new address in Montrose Avenue.

After being convicted for four acts of gross indecency with a child and four convictions for indecent assault of a child, Sharman was given life-time status as a registered sex offender in 2002. As such, he was bound by law to inform officers of any address change.

DC Andy Livingstone, Lancaster Police, said: "Sharman had previously befriended a woman in order to get closer to her child, so obviously concerns were high when it became apparent he was with this mother and her young daughter."

"Fortunately he was located quickly and both mother and daughter were found to be unharmed."
