Police are appealing for information after a Lancashire woman was sprayed in the face with a corrosive liquid by yobs.

The 52-year-old had been walking along Scale Hall Lane, Lancaster, and was near to the bus stop on the opposite side of the road from Spar at 9.50pm on Monday August 9 when two males in a silver car pulled up and asked for directions.

As the woman bent down to speak to them, one of the men pointed a water pistol at her and then squirted her in the face, leaving her with a swollen face.

It is believed the water pistol contained a corrosive liquid and the woman attended Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment.

One of the males was described as white, with short dark hair, aged 20 - 23 and speaking with a local accent.

PC Sally Ward, Lancaster Police, said: "These men have driven away laughing, leaving the victim in a state of discomfort and needing to go to hospital. I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01524 63333 quoting log ref LC-20100809-1770.
