Two Bury men have been jailed for robbery at Bolton Crown Court.

22-year-old Daniel Pearson, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two offences of robbery while 27-year-old Michael Dudley of Whitehead Crescent, Bury, had earlier pleaded guilty to one offence of robbery.

Pearson was sentenced to a minimum of four years, an indeterminate sentence for the protection of the public, while Dudley was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.

At about 9.30pm on Monday 30 November 2009, Pearson, and another unknown man entered the Co-operative food store on Walmersley Road.

Pearson grabbed a member of staff and held a five-inch long knife to his throat, saying: "If you move, I'll cut your head off!"

He stole nearly £500 from the till and ran off, leaving staff uninjured but very shaken.

At about 9.45pm on Sunday 7 February 2010 a masked Pearson went into the Co-operative store on Vernon Road, Greenmount, armed with a knife.

He walked up to the counter, showed the shop assistant he had a knife, and demanded cash. He was handed some cash from one till and asked for all the tills to be emptied.

When told the other tills were empty he said: "Oh, I am really sorry about this", turned round and walked out of the store. Dudley was waiting outside in a car and the pair left together.

On 13 February 2010 officers stopped a car being driven by Dudley in which Pearson was the passenger.

Officers went to Dudley's home, where Pearson was living, and found clothing used in the Greenmount robbery.

Detective Constable Dave Potter, of Bury CID, said: "Pearson in particular is a violent individual who is better off behind bars.

"Innocent shop assistants should never have to go through this kind of ordeal. I hope the jailing of Pearson and Dudley provides some comfort for the victims."
